Art and DT Fashion Show
04 March 2010
Year 7 put on a dazzling Aboriginal themed fashion show to the whole school on Wednesday 3rd March. The PAC was themed as a Parisian cat walk complete with glitter ball, music and lighting. The Head of Art from Repton School, Mr Jeremy Bournon, came along to judge the costumes.
In Art and DT Year 7 have learnt about an Aboriginal fable called the "Origin of Water". This fable tells of animals that get together to find a spring of water that a blue tongued lizard is hiding from them. It is the smallest animal, the rat, who finds the spring. So the moral of the story is ‘never underestimate the smallest person’.
The children have worked together in teams to make costumes based on the fable. Each person had chosen to be either an animal, water or land. They have used batik, dye and print techniques, as well as a heat gun to shrivel a special fabric called Coloron.
Comments from the children about their experience:
"We enjoyed it so much and we wish we could do it again. Our six weeks of hard work preparing for the show paid off."
"The fashion show was amazing."
