Sporting Event: U9 v Ryleys (a)
Result: won by 50 runs
Player(s) of the Match: Oliver Mitchell
Match Report: Having lost to the unmentionables in our first match, today represented progress and a business-like maturity that the down-the-roaders simply could not match. Tight lines and length in the bowling department bound the Alderley Edgers in a vice-like grip that their maverick lifestyles were not used to.

Our batting was destructive and flamboyant too. What an excitingly successful voyage Terra Novan cricket has, crashing through the waves of differing momentum that this finest of sports creates with this lot at the helm.

Sporting Event: U9B v Ryleys (a)
Result: won by 16 runs
Player(s) of the Match: All the boys
Match Report: Well done to the boys today. They proved to be sportingly more mature, had a better technique in the batting and bowling wardrobe and had simply been round the block a few more times than the Ryleys’ pups.

All good fun under the blazing Sun.

Result: Several National Qualifiers
Player(s) of the Match: all competitors
Match Report: This year’s event was held at Stretford’s Longford Park Athletic stadium. Competition was, as always, fierce. Oliver Barlow competing in the year group above won the hurdles and Evie Baker-Wilbraham secured her place in both the Long Jump and 1500m. The courageous performance and sprint finish in the 800m of Madi Ashurst was outstanding. Throwing events saw Freddie Ashworth and Will Beal shot putt themselves into the nationals. Long Jump saw Tom B-D and Jack Lea-Jones excel and earn their places in Birmingham. Jet-heeled Georgia Turner won the 100M and Jack Soulsby cruised to a stamina busting 1500m victory. The Yr5 1500m race was quite a spectacle with slips, trips and memories of Coe and Ovett in Moscow 1980, as Francesca Harris and Oliver Taylor battled their way to strong finishes and national qualification.

Team Terra Nova once again performed superbly and behaved quite brilliantly during the day. Special mention must go to Nia Linnell for ensuring that the day was a great success for all the schools competing

Sporting Event: U11 v S.Anselms (a)
Result: won by 93 runs
Player(s) of the Match: Ike McCormick
Match Report: The merchants of menace were back on stage yesterday. This time Derbyshire was the victim of the ever-growing Terra Novan cricketing savvy. I knew our men in green and white had a lot in their locker but they took their impressiveness to a new level here.

The white and green machine batted first and combined leg side bullying with running quick singles from the Franco-Yorkshire school of savoir-faire. What a delight it was to see the Cheshire heroes doing the business when it counted.

We are really getting somewhere in terms of embracing cricketing culture, valuing patience as a virtue and expecting more from ourselves all round as sportsmen and young men. Taking the under 11As for cricket is an honour and the collective tangible improvement in our ranks makes it a beautiful responsibility. Keep pitching it up boys, and your natural games playing ability will smother most batting outfits.

Sporting Event: U10 v S.Anselms (a)
Result: Won by 85 runs
Player(s) of the Match: Dan Fosbrook
Match Report: On a day suited more for the bowlers, it was the batting that sealed the win for the TN boys. T.N won the toss and elected to field. Every fielder was given two overs to bowl, except Rhys, who did a fantastic job behind the stumps. The bowling started really well, with Dan Fosbrook getting a wicket within the first over of the day. This was to be the first of two wickets for Dan. The other wicket takers were Oscar Barry, Toby Bywater and Aidan Bastin.

Every bowler bowled well enough so that very few runs were scored off the bat, however TN managed to give away 62 extras, nearly all wides. Some accuracy training to be done! St Anselms finished on 89 for 5 off their 20 overs.

However, for the batting, there were no negatives to be had. We decided to play all 20 overs, even if we reached the opposition’s score, in order to give more players a bat. Three of our top four batsmen retired on 30, with Ol Barlow getting out on 24, only because of some great work by the opposition wicketkeeper.

TN finished on 174 for 1 wicket. The man of the match could have gone to any of the retired players, Rhys Woodward or Joe Bradbury, however for hitting 20 runs off 1 over and getting 2 wickets it has gone to Dan Fosbrook.

Sporting Event: Yr 5 and 6 v Pownall Hall (h)
Match Report: A lovely afternoon of athletics with all the pupils getting lots of opportunity to compete in a variety of events. All events were fiercely contested and there were some excellent individual performances. Times and distances were taken for all events but no scores given. All children did themselves proud and were excellent ambassadors for the school.

Sporting Event: U13 v Denstone (h)
Result: Won 14.5 – 11
Player(s) of the Match: Annie Livermore
Match Report: This was a good performance against a strong team from Denstone. Amy Lewin bowled accurately and there was plenty of safe fielding. Annie Livermore was effective as close-in fielder, putting pressure on the batters, taking catches and getting the ball to 2nd post quickly. Ottilie Bardsley remained calm in the deep field, throwing accurately to 2nd post of bowler. We scored plenty of rounders in both innings from a range of girls. Very well played by all the team.

Sporting Event: U11B v Prestfelde (h)
Result: Won 103 TN vs 85 PRE
Player(s) of the Match: Harry Cookson
Match Report: The u11B team performed well in the sunshine to record a victory against Prestfelde. There was some good running between the wickets and some good bowling to ensure the total of 85 was chased down with an over and a half to spare. Standout performer was Harry Cookson who took a stunning catch, hit some cracking fours and bowled really well.

Sporting Event: Yr 3 and 4 v Beech Hall (h)
Player(s) of the Match: All the team
Match Report: Another fabulous performance from our young athletes. Superb individual efforts from all the pupils. We dominated the track events with spectacular runs from Harry, Jody, Ruby and Finlay. The ball throwing was quite equal and the boys did well in the high jump and the girls made a great set of jumps in the long jump area. Great practise for sports day and some real talent for the future. Very impressive.

Sport: Tennis
Sporting Event: Repton Prep School Tennis Tournament
Result: Winners of U12 Tournament
Player(s) of the Match: All players but especially Gus Feinnes and Leo Cullis
Match Report: A fabulous day of tennis with over 140 pupils taking part in six tournaments. All our pairs were strong and in with a chance, but as in any tournament it is about staying focused and confident. Alastair and Tom Blood were outstanding and were just pipped to a semi final place despite drawing in 1st place in the group stages. Bertie and Tom B-D played some very fine tennis but generally left it too late. Hal and Jack grew in confidence as the day went on and lost their last game in a tie break and narrowly missed being runners up in their group.

In the U11s three teams dropped out leaving our boys with only three matches to play. Stephen and Ben were the wild card entry who just blossomed and their tennis and partnership improved throughout the day. Max and Euan were very consistent and again only just lost out on a semi final place by a point.

Gus and Leo were the School stars who had decided to make the title theirs and quietly set about destroying everyone in their way. They communicated well with each other and demonstrated a maturity in their playing ability and partnership. They even looked smart on the court and were matched by their mothers on the side line who would give Judy Murray a run for her money. Congratulations to all who took part and especially Gus and Leo who really deserved their rather large trophy.
Sporting Event: U13 and U11 and U10 v Ryleys
Result: Won by 6 points
Player(s) of the Match: The whole team!
Match Report: A great swimming match where we worked hard for each other and swam to a narrow victory, despite the number of exceptionally talented club swimmers that The Ryleys have. Good support and excellent effort from everyone won the day!
Sporting Event: U8 v Ryleys (h)
Result: Lost by 10
Player(s) of the Match: Liam Connolly & Bray Kenneally for some excellent bowling
Match Report: A fantastic day of cricket on the astro against The Ryleys was had by all, and we saw some really good examples of bowling, fielding and batting. The boys are starting to really grasp the concepts of the game now and their technique is improving all the time.

The boys are really enjoying their matches and we are working hard in training to give them the skills to keep improving.
Sport: Cricket
Sporting Event: U9 v APS (a)
Result: Under 9A won by 5 runs
Player(s) of the Match: Callum Wilson
Match Report: The boys played brilliantly today in defeating a strong APS team. Good straight bowling was the order of the day and was duly served as a tasty starter by our servants of fire. When it came to our main course of batting with relish, the boys timed their run perfectly. With twenty needed off the last sixteen balls, Mitchell and Sheil saw us home.

APS had very good cricketers and on a less bouncy wicket with a proper ball, their orthodoxy may have seen them home. That said, our boys adapted to the conditions and the Games players in them knew what to do.

Sporting Event: U11 v Beech Hall (h)
Player(s) of the Match: Tallulah Goldsmith and Harrie Kennedy
Match Report: A lovely afternoon of athletics with the pupils trying all events and all performing at a really high level, and often surprising themselves with their results. Tallulah and Harrie are my men of the match for their efforts on the track (Tallulah) and Harrie for his determination on the shot.
Sporting Event: U9 v Ryleys (h)
Result: Lost 6.5-7
Player(s) of the Match: Coco Bardsley and Jennifer Halliwell
Match Report: The girls played a good game and stayed focused. They could have taken a few more risks with trying to score the half rounders, but it was a lovely game with good accurate passing and sensible fielding decisions.
Sporting Event: U9 v APS (a)
Result: 1 victory 1 loss
Player(s) of the Match: Hugo Oakley
Match Report: Inclement weather meant the matches were played on the artificial pitch at Bowdon, thus providing a standard bounce and small boundaries.

The APS bowlers were true and straight and skittled out the TN batsmen eight times, reducing what would have been a formidable total. Terra Nova’s bowlers weren’t so fortunate, but Hugo Oakley’s energy and commitment in the field kept the pressure on the APS run total. The difference in the end proved to be the wicket count in a very well contested match.
Player(s) of the Match: Arun Sarkar
Sport: Cricket
Sporting Event: 1st XI v Denstone (h)
Result: Lost by 9 runs 139-4 vs 130 a.o.
Player(s) of the Match: Freddie Ashworth
Match Report: The Terra Nova first team came up short in their run chase on Wednesday, and will be ruing an opportunity missed against a strong opposition.

After Denstone’s opening batsman Cooper blasted 57 off 37 balls, the boys did relatively well to restrict the opposition to 139 off their 25 overs. In truth we bowled a few too many loose deliveries and the target was higher than it should have been. A lot of credit goes to debutant Freddie Ashworth who took two crucial catches to remove Cooper and the number 3 batsman Madders. Both catches were excellent and very important in their timing. The pick of the bowlers were Jack Lea-Jones 4-11-0 and George Faulkner 4-18-1 who kept it tight, whilst Tom Bromley-Davenport picked up 2 wickets for 27.

In reply on a slow wicket with small boundaries Terra Nova always fancied their chances. In the end there were only two batsmen who got a grip of the Denstone bowlers and it went right down to the wire. Sean Neary struck an amazing 53 of 21 balls but was then run out after a mix up. This was a crucial moment in the game. A number of cheap wickets fell and it was Freddie Ashworth who led the second wave of attack, and he played very maturely for his 23 not out. He brought the score to within 9 of the winning total with 2 over to spare, but sadly ran out of partners as our final batsman was bowled out. This was an opportunity missed and we must work on defending the good balls and not giving our wickets away.
Team Manager: Mr T Ward

Sport: Cricket
Sporting Event: 2nd XI v Denstone (h)
Result: Lost
Player(s) of the Match: Alistair Harris
Match Report: The team fielded first, and the poor pitch would have been quite effective if the bowlers pitched the ball up more. Most of the bowling was far too short and the opposing batsmen were able to punish the bad deliveries. Some of our fielding practice had paid of with some good catches, there is still plenty of room for improvement though.

The opposing team were a very good team that showed our players how to bat, they ended up on 150 off their 20 overs. Some of our batsmen showed some resistance to the opposing bowling. Gus Fiennes and Alistair Harris were the main batsmen who managed to spend a decent amount of time at the crease. Overall Denstone were just a better team than us on the day and the result showed it.
Sporting Event: U11 v Prestfelde (a)
Result: Draw
Player(s) of the Match: All of them
Match Report: Prestfelde 192 for 1 declared
Terra Nova 48 for 7
DRAW
I will only have been at Terra Nova for two cricket terms but I am willing to wager that there have been very few more extraordinary performances with the bat than this in Terra Nova’s history. To survive for two hours against a very strong side, who had just beaten the county side easily, was rare, defiant in the extreme and quite simply, heroic.

With no prospect of victory whatsoever chasing 192, the tactics were to leave every ball not straight, take no unnecessary runs and generally play a cricketing filibuster to make the superior team work for their win. Easy in theory but for boys to execute this plan to the letter is another thing.

All the boys were heroes with six or seven of them in particular batting for at least half an hour. Lessons in cricket were learned today and so were lessons in life. Patience is most certainly a virtue. Rarely have I been prouder of a set of boys. Just because the opposition is far superior to you, it doesn’t mean you have to let them beat you.

Sporting Event: U10 v Prestfelde (h)
Result: Won by 21 runs
Player(s) of the Match: Dan Fosbrook
Match Report: We made 103 for nine with four run outs all due to appalling calling errors – guess what we are working on next? Top scorer was Rhys with 16 runs. Then when Prestfelde batted, Dan Fosbrook ripped out their first three batsmen for ducks and they never recovered. They limped along not really going for it and in the end TN won easily. Well played everyone Prestfelde are quite a scalp.
Player(s) of the Match: Grace Oakley
Match Report: The girls played extremely well in both fielding and batting. In the field the girls displayed accurate passes as well as quick thinking which got several of the other teams players out, and all the girls showed great throwing and catching skills.

A fantastic game to watch, the girls definitely deserved to win.
Player(s) of the Match: Milly Charnock
Match Report: A superb display by the girls who obviously knew the rules and were really tight with the fielding, and took all the risks when batting. A few no balls allowed the score to creep up, but a stunning display from our girls.
Sporting Event: U8 v Edenhurst (h)
Result: Lost
Player(s) of the Match: William Wooton
Match Report: Another match for the u8′s this week and lots more progress made. We saw some really good examples of bowling, fielding and batting and learnt some important lessons with our bowling. The boys are starting to really grasp the concepts of the game now and their technique is improving all the time. In truth we struggled to hit some of the opposition’s bowling as there were a lot of wides and sometime when you bowl straight, you are more likely to get hit for boundaries. However the best bowling performance was from William Wooton who bowled really well.

The boys are really enjoying their matches and we are working hard in training to give them the skills to keep improving.

Leo Cullis and Gus Fiennes have won the annual Repton Prep Schools tennis tournament, which took place in May. They didn’t lose a single match throughout the day, beating the favourites 6-2.

In the under 11s Stephen and Ben were the wild card entry who just blossomed, and their tennis and partnership improved throughout the day. Max and Euan were very consistent and again only just lost out on a semi final place by a point.

Nia Linnell, Director of Sport at TN, commented: “Gus and Leo were the school stars who had decided to make the title theirs, and quietly set about destroying everyone in their way. They communicated well with each other and demonstrated a maturity in their playing ability and partnership. Congratulations to all who took part and especially Gus and Leo who really deserved their rather large trophy.”

Gus and Leo currently play for Alderley Edge Cricket Club, and also recently won the JNCTL Bramhall Lane under 13 doubles tournament.

Athletics
Yr 7 and 8 v Ryleys (h)
Result: Terra Nova Win
Player(s) of the Match: Ella Walsh and Sean Neary
The weather made a huge impact on this Athletics meet as temperatures plummeted and the skies grew leaden during the afternoon. The track events were first up and The Ryleys had a strong showing in the sprint events, but the distance runs were won comfortably by both TN boys and girls – Ella Walsh proving to be a natural at 400M.

In the field events the prevailing conditions cut short the number of attempts at each discipline, but Sean Neary once again impressed in the Long Jump.

A keenly and fairly-contested match by both teams.
Team Manager: Mrs N Linnell

13/5/2013
Rounders
U11 v Kings Macclesfield (h)
Result: Won 16-11.5
Player(s) of the Match: Lauren Davey
The weather cleared up, the sun came out, and it was only the wind that caused our girls some problems. It was a nice game with the 1st innings being fairly equal. We scored a few more half rounders due to being more aware of the games technicalities, but the Kings girls gave us a run for our money.

The 2nd innings was unfortunately dominated by no balls from Kings allowing us to notch up the rounders. Excellent batting from Lauren and good catching from Eliza, as well as sound performances from the rest of the team, secured a solid win.
Team Manager: Mrs N Linnell

13/5/2013
Rounders
U10 v Kings Macclesfield (h)
Result: Won
Player(s) of the Match: Tabitha Wilmore
Strong hitting from both teams with good left handers in the Kings’ Macclesfield side. We fielded first and got many of the opposition out with accurate throwing to second base. At the end of the first innings the score was 4 to 7.5 in our favour. In the second innings we managed to get Kings out for 3 so had already won the game before we went in to bat. As time was short TN girls were limited to one hit each.

Improved fielding to second base and some good batting led to a successful result. Well done!
Team Manager: Miss J Newlyn

14/5/2013
Cricket
U9A v Ryleys (h)
Result: lost by 15 runs
Player(s) of the Match: Jamie Livermore
The boys’ first match was great fun. They all got a bat and all got to bowl, which is the most important thing. Straight bowling and a good catch made Jamie man of the match.

Well done, The Ryleys.
Team Manager: Mr A Livermore

16/5/2013
Cricket
U8 v APS (a)
Result: 3 wins, 1 draw and 2 losses
Player(s) of the Match: A number of excellent performances
The under 8 boys took off for Bowden cricket club this Thursday to perform in their first cricket match of the season. After some extensive work on their bowling and batting in training the boys quickly settled into their matches and performed very well in mixed ability teams to secure an overall win against local rivals APS.

This is a crucial time for the boys and their cricket. Some of the boys are starting to join clubs and play in local leagues as well as take part in out of school cricket classes. This is key to their progress, and in combination with school cricket will ensure they learn the techniques and game knowledge to do well in the future.

A great day out for all involved, and some fantastic individual performances. A particular mention for Ethan Jones and Solomon Begg-Finnon, who performed very well under pressure.
Team Manager: Mr T Ward

16/5/2013
Cricket
U9 v Beech Hall (a)
Result: lost by 1 run
Player(s) of the Match: Tom Sheil
It is always an amazing match when three results are all still possible with one ball left. What a fun denouement to this Macclesfield clash! Well done to Beech Hall! Tom Sheil batted brutally and brilliantly to earn the man of the match handshake.
Team Manager: Mr A Livermore

16/5/2013
Rounders
U9 v Beech Hall (a)
Result: Won 12-8
Player(s) of the Match: Maya Bacon
The girls played really well and demonstrated a sound knowledge of the rules of the game. Consistent bowling from Lauren, sensible throwing from Maya as back stop, and quick pick ups from all the fielders kept the Beech hall score low, despite their excellent batting.

Well done girls.
Team Manager: Mrs N Linnell

We recently hosted the ninth annual Cheshire Nursery Art Competition, which took its inspiration from The Gruffalo. More than 500 paintings were submitted, created by children from nurseries across the county, and it proved to be a difficult task to select winners.

The judges; Debbie Goldsmith, Curator at Tate Liverpool, Tiffany Henry from Little Tigers magazine, and Sherri Bloor and Ian Thomlinson from Homes Chapel and Goostrey Art Club were amazed at the quality of artwork submitted, and had a hard time choosing the best.

The winners were presented with their awards during a fun-filled family morning, which involved treasure hunts, face painting, a craft table and the presentation itself. Headmaster Andrew Lewin said: “All of the children, their parents and nursery staff, had a lovely time, and their artwork further brightened up our Nursery and Pre-Prep classrooms. The awards day was helped by the great weather, and in particular by regular sightings of The Gruffalo as he wandered around School. Everyone enjoyed the prize giving, and all took part in the treasure hunt and activities”.

The winners were:
Best overall entry: Oliver Hatton from Rainbow Day Nursery, Middlewich; Best in age 2 group Jacey Carrick from Alderley Day Nursery; Best in Age 3 group Ariana Khan from Alderley Edge School for Girls; Best in age 4 group Zach Benjamin from Apples and Pear Day Nursery; and Most promising artist Jessica Hamer-Owens from Alderley Edge School for Girls.

Highly Commended awards:
Beechwood Day Nursery: Esme, William R; Chrysalis Day Nursery: Isabelle Hilton, Ruby Tarn, Freya Moore, Jake Weedal, Leon Hardcastle; Hilltop Day Nursery: Madeleine Holford; Nursery Lane Pre-School: Harry Vose, Khol Saleem; Kids Unilimited Crewe: Phoebe Mutch; Apples and Pears Day Nursery: Charlotte Thornhill, Bronwyn Northwood, Erin Clare; Egerton Pre-School: Charlie Butters; Terra Nova School Nursery: Romilly Glover; Peter Fearnside; Alderley Edge School for Girls: Molly Ogden; Rainbow Day Nursery, Mere: Lauren Cooper; Rainbow Day Nursery, Middlewich: Kristian Harding.

Athletics
Yr 5 and 6 Athletics v Ryleys (h)
Won 135-145
Superb performances from all of our team. Guts and determination saw them taking on some strong rivals and getting some great results. Great track results from Emily, Oliver B, Tabitha , Harry S, Francesca, Oliver T,Evie and Max. Strong performances in field events on the high and long jump. Very impressive.
Team Manager: Mrs N Linnell

30/4/2013
Athletics
U10 v Beech Hall (h)
Lost 106-108
Great performances from everyone and, despite winning all disciplines, we were out-jumped in the long jump where Beech Hall took the top places. The track events were very well contested and some individuals were superb; Will Coope, Ed Hammond, Oscar Barry to name but a few. In the throwing events the boys and girls are all working on technique and showing lots of potential for the future.

Well done everyone.
Team Manager: Mrs N Linnell

30/4/2013
Rounders
U9 V Ryleys (a)
Won 13 – 10.5
Player(s) of the Match: Libby Grant
This was the under 9′s first match of the season and they got off to a great start. Player of the match was Libby Grant for her two full rounders in the first innings, together with some excellent fielding at 2nd base. Our first innings total was 5.5 rounders; unfortunately due to some great catching by their bowler and backstop five of our girls were out.

The Ryleys scored four rounders in their first innings, so it was really important that we made the most with the bat in our second innings. This time they only managed to get one person out, and with full rounders being scored by Milly Charnock and Emily Dalton, we scored 7.5 rounders to take our total to 13. Our fielding was good and with Lauren bowling well we kept the Ryleys total to 6.5 giving them an overall score of 10.5. Well done girls.
Team Manager: Mrs G Clark

30/4/2013
Rounders
U11 v Rydal Penrhos (h)
Won 18-10
Player(s) of the Match: Evie Baker Wilbraham
A good result for the U11s. The team batted well in both innings and kept the fielding fairly tight. Rydal had some strong hitters, but Madison attempted some difficult catches and threw the ball accurately to 4th post to stop many full rounders.

Evie was very consistent as backstop and hit the ball well to clock up the tally of full and half rounders. A good team performance.
Team Manager: Mrs N Linnell

1/5/2013
Cricket
2nd XI v Ryleys (h)
Won by 9 wickets
Player(s) of the Match: Whole team
The team lost the toss for the second game in a row and were put into the field by the Ryleys skipper. Each player bowled two overs and were very impressive with their lines and lengths. Many of the bowlers got the ball to swing in the air and caused many problems for the batting team. Wickets were taken by Charlie Ferguson, Tom Blood, Oliver Roberts, Hugo Bardsley and Alistair Harris. Gus Fiennes and Hal Dearnley both bowled two overs for just three runs which put pressure on the batsmen.

The opponent’s bowling attack was not as strong as ours and our top order played well. Charlie Ferguson got 36 not out, punishing many bad balls. Freddie Ashworth was batting well until he got bowled out by a good fast ball from their opening bowler for 11 runs. Hal Dearnley came in at number 3 and made a solid three not out and played a good supporting role for Charlie. The won with 10 wickets to spare.
Team Manager: Mr T Ward

1/5/2013
Cricket
U10 v Ryleys (h)
Won by Five Wickets( and eleven overs to spare.)
Player(s) of the Match: Dan Fosbrook
This was a relatively easy victory. The Ryleys were all out for 48 in eleven overs and we had got it for the loss of five wickets in eleven overs. Dan scored sixteen and Oscar took three wickets. Joe was unbeaten on fifteen. Highlight: Much better fielding – use of underarm throws and players being behind the stumps. Target area: not playing with a cross bat at straight balls. Well done!
Team Manager: Mr W Dearnaley

1/5/2013
Cricket
SU11 v Edenhurst (h)
Won by 20 runs
Player(s) of the Match: Fin Kenneally
A lovely afternoon in the Cheshire early Summer sunshine. Edenhurst, a super set of well mannered boys, decided to field first and thanks largely to Fin and Max, we scored 75. Through terrific fielding, the strongest card in our pack, as well as good length bowling, we restricted Edenhurst to 55. Well played, the boys.
Team Manager: Mr W Dearnaley

1/5/2013
Rounders
U13 v Yarlet (a)
Won 17 – 8.5
Player(s) of the Match: Lizzie Mee
This was a great team performance where the girls fielded and batted confidently and positively. Amy Lewin varied the pace of her bowling which made it difficult for the opposition to hit. All the girls supported each other in the field, backing up and encouraging each other. The length of the grass made it difficult to score as many rounders, but Lizzie Mee, our Player of the Match, still managed to score 5.5 – well done!
Team Manager: Mrs G Clark

1/5/2013
Rounders
U11 v Yarlet (a)
Lost 10.5 – 11.5
Player(s) of the Match: Victoria Roberts
A very close game against a well coached team from Yarlet. The 1st innings our girls were not positioned well for fielding and the Yarlet girls were hitting into the spaces. Despite excellent backing up on the bases and some good fielding in a number of rounders were scored by the opposition.

We batted well but struggled with the girls being caught out on 1st if they missed the ball when hitting. Good risk taking allowed the halves to be notches up but the result was a fair one for the teams involved.
Team Manager: Mrs N Linnell

1/5/2013
Rounders
U11B v Foremarke (h)
Won 21.5-14
Player(s) of the Match: Eliza Brown and Charlotte Conniff
The girls played brilliantly today showing skills in both fielding and batting. Our Year 5 girls, Isabella and Kacey, played extremely well with strong hits and were quick to run and retrieve the ball in the field. Georgia Knott displayed a high level of bowling and made accurate passing to Tallulah on second post who caught the ball quickly, and was able to stump the post several times which got the other players out.

Our outfielders Erin and Amelia had good eye on the long balls and made quick recovery in order to get it back to the bowler. Lauren was an excellent batter today hitting the ball far enough to get rounders.

Eliza impressed us all by smashing the ball far and managing to score several rounders. Charlotte also managed to get several rounders and half rounders for running super fast and beating the ball to the 4th post. Abigail was a phenomenal hitter making the opposing fielders have a good run to retrieve the ball.

The girls played so well today, and I’m so proud of them all. They definitely earned and deserved to win.
Team Manager: Mrs N Linnell

1/5/2013
Rounders
U11B v Packwood (a)
Lost both games
Player(s) of the Match: Georgia Knott
It was a close two games but unfortunately the girls narrowly lost against Packwood and Moor Park.

Our girls demonstrated excellent fielding skills and managed to get a few girls out on second base. Georgia made some amazing catches and caught several girls out. The girls worked fantastically as a team and made quick accurate passes from the outfield back to the posts and bowler.

When it was Terra Nova’s inning, the girls struggled to make bat and ball contact and found it hard to make a hit with the oppositions strong bowlers.

It was a tough day for the girls but they still walked away from the pitch with their heads held high.
Team Manager: Mrs N Linnell

1/5/2013
Rounders
U10 v Yarlet (h)
Won 19-11
Player(s) of the Match: Grace Oakley
We lost the toss and had to bat first. Some of the girls took risky chances and were stumped out as a result, and Yarlet took a couple of good catches. At the end of the first innings we were losing by one rounder.

In the second inning the girls batted well, scoring whole and half rounders. When fielding, we knew we had to sharpen up on passes to 2nd base in order to stop Yarlet scoring. We did this and kept Yarlet to a total of 5.5 rounders to our 11 making Terra Nova overall winners. A good team performance.
Team Manager: Miss J Newlyn

Our Pre-Prep children have been making the most of the warmer weather, taking advantage of our new Gardening Club. Pre-Prep teachers and pupils were out in force at the beginning of May to put together the new gardening space, and pupils are able to get involved in green fingered fun as part of our after school provision.

The garden occupies a space at the centre of the school, so can be enjoyed by pupils from all years. It contains a sensory section to soothe as well as a mini beast hotel and a beehive. Children can be part of the whole food journey as they plant, feed, tend, harvest and eat their produce, aided by water butts, rain gauges and measuring areas.

Yr 5 and 6 v Liverpool College (h)
Result: Lost 166-161
An absolutely fabulous athletics meet with everyone trying incredibly hard. All events were very close with only one or two points in it, but Liverpool College came out the overall winners by five points: 166-161

Great individual performances by Euan Cooper and Gabriel Thorpe in the high jump, Max Rosser in shot and Harry Cookson in the 400m. The relays were incredibly fast and competitive and it was great seeing everyone working as a team and supporting each other.
Yr 5 and 6 v Liverpool College (h)
A fabulous athletics meet with some girls pulling superb performances out of the bag. Francesca Harris in the 400m and long jump, Evie B-W in the 400m and high jump, Madi Ashurst in the 400m, Tabitha in the 200m. Again the 4 x 100m relays were incredibly exciting and the girls were superb.
1st XI v Foremarke Hall (h)
Won by 136 runs
Player(s) of the Match: Sean Neary and Tom Bromley-Davenport
The first team completed two wins from two with an emphatic victory over Foremarke this week. A fantastic 115-run partnership from Tom Bromley-Davenport (39 off 50) and Sean Neary (75 off 36) set them on their way for a massive total. In the end the boys closed on 208 – 7 off their 25 overs with a run rate of above 8. There were some excellent contributions down the order from Bertie Linell (17 off 18), Oliver Sykes (25 off 15) and William Beal (11 off 10).

In reply Foremarke were not able to withstand our accurate bowling. Sean Neary completed a good day with figures of 3-21 off 3 overs, whilst Tom Bromley-Davenport completed a captain’s performance with a remarkable 4-1 off 1 over. There was also a wicket for vice captain Oliver Roberts, George Faulkner and Jack Lea-Jones.

An excellent win and an excellent start to the season.
U10 v Foremarke Hall (h)
Lost by 42 runs
Player(s) of the Match: Oliver Barlow
Foremarke made 170 runs for 6 and in reply we made 127 for 7. Wickets were taken by Oscar (two) and Dan. The boundary was short and they had three super top order batsmen. In reply it became apparent that we were never going to get the score and rather than throwing our wickets away trying we determined on posting a decent team score. The eventual total owed a great deal to an unbeaten 33 from Joe, 27 from Oliver and 22 from Rhys. We need to work on all aspects of our game but this was an encouraging start. Well done.
Cricket
U11 v Foremarke Hall (a)
Won by 12 runs
Player(s) of the Match: Max Rosser
An undulating encounter in terms of momentum shifting and where the money was being laid at William Hill’s. The Terra Novan white and green machine scored quickly but lost wickets at an alarming rate. In a baker’s dozen overs we were out for 77. Max Rosser batted throughout the innings – dealing murderously with anything short and keeping out the good ball with a straight bat.

Enter East Ridings and the madness of King George’s slow right arm confusion. At 33 for 1, the Derbyshire dashers looked home and dry; however, this is prep school cricket. Ridings rode roughshod as the runs relented. An iron curtain of Cheshire exuberance engulfed the faltering second innings. Smothered and terminated for 62.

An open top bus tour around Twemlow is booked for the near future.

Wine for my men. We ride at dawn.
2nd XI v Foremarke Hall (a)
Won by 6 wickets
Player(s) of the Match: Hugo Bardsley
Alistair Harris lost the toss and the team got put in the field by the opposing captain. Gus Fiennes opened the bowling with a good consistent spell of 1/18 off 4. Tom Blood was the other opening bowler and produced a wicket with his first ball and ended up with figures of 2/9 off 4. Both of the openers managed to swing the ball and really trouble the batsmen.

Hal Dearnley bowled his left arm chinaman very tidily and his figures of 0/21 off 4 do not do him justice. Jack Souslby came on and bowled with a lot of swing and managed to control the ball well. His figures were 1/12 off his 4 overs. Hugo Bardsley and skipper Alistair Harris finished off the bowling having 4 overs each. the batsmen that was in was playing well and scored some valuable runs during these overs. But Hugo brought that to an abrupt halt taking 2 wickets in 2 balls. He finished with figures of 2/32 and Alistair had 0/26. The fielding could have been better, four catches were dropped by various players and the opposing side ended up with 123 runs off the 24 overs they had to bat.

Chasing 123 runs is not an easy task for batsmen when there are only 24 overs to do so. Hugo Bardsley and Freddie Ashworth opened the batting and got the team off to a great start. Then disaster struck as Freddie ran himself out for 10. Hugo battled on with his batting partners doing their job with him. Alistair Harris came in at number 3 and managed 15 runs before he got bowled out.

In came Jack Soulsby at number 4, he got 4 runs and then was unlucky to get caught by a stunning catch at short fine leg. Tom Blood came in at number 5 and had a great cameo of 12 not out, playing some blinding shots for boundaries and hitting the winning runs. Hugo batted right the way through the innings playing incredible shots all around the park, 4s galore and even his first 6. He finished his wonderful innings at 64 not out, an innings that anybody would be proud of. That’s how you open the batting! It was a great performance by all the players and hopefully we can keep up the good form and the good team spirit.
Cricket
U10B v Foremarke Hall (a)
Won by 9 runs
Player(s) of the Match: Calum McCormick
Skipper Ed Hammond won the toss and elected to bowl first on a sun-baked April wicket. Jacob Buddle, Oliver Taylor, Toby Nazer-Williams and Miles Armour bowled consistent line and length and contained the Foremarke run makers, whilst Harry Cookson and Jake Reid bowled with flight and guile and tempted the batsmen to drive to the fielders. Wicketkeeper Thorpe was cat-like in his ability and agility with the gloves. A good fielding performance gave the batsmen something to chase down.

Ed Hammond and Cameron Griffiths were pinching singles on every ball, Thomas Wheeler driving and defending like his life depended on it and all the Terra Nova batsmen able to play shots of some sort against a varied Foremarke bowling attack.

However it was the allround performance of Calum McCormick that caught the eye. Bouncing around the field like Jonty Rhodes, bowling like a young Botham and batting like the bludgeoning Chris Gayle. Calum was a worthy player of the match and helped the boys secure a famous victory.
Rounders
U13 v Foremarke (h)
Won 17.5 – 8
Player(s) of the Match: Amy Lewin
A spirited performance resulting in a well-deserved victory. Amy Lewin controlled the match effectively from the bowling square, making it difficult for the opposition to score rounders. Emily Clark stepped in as backstop, allowing Georgia Turner to patrol the deep field and limit Foremarke to half rounders as much as possible. Ella Walsh covered first and second posts, leaving Annie to take catches in the field. We had another strong batting performance led by Amy, who scored four rounders.

24/4/2013
Rounders
U11 v Foremarke (h)
Lost 17-9
Player(s) of the Match: Madison Lyons
A really good game which Foremarke won in the 2nd innings. The girls played really well and were very switched on. The fielding was tight and the Foremarke girls were having to be content with only scoring the half rounders despite some fabulous hits. Madison Lyons made numerous long and accurate passes and all the girls were very quick to back up and ensure the post was stumped.

When batting the girls were excellent at taking the risks and sneaking the half and full rounders in. They took every advantage of fielding mistake and scored. The girls also hit well despite the Foremarke bowler having a very accurate fast spin bowl.

Well done girls, they don’t get much tougher than Foremarke!
Team Manager: Mrs N Linnell

Georgia Knott displayed a high level of bowling and made accurate passing to Tallulah on second post who caught the ball quickly and was able to stump the post several times which got the other players out.

The girls played so well today. I’m so proud of them all. They definitely earned and deserved to win.
Team Manager: Mrs N Linnell

Rounders
U10 v Foremarke (h)
Drew 15 – 15
Player(s) of the Match: Georgia Edwards
A super first performance by the under 10s. The teams were evenly matched with some strong hitting and well deserved full rounders on both sides. Terra Nova fielded well and got several of the opposition out on 2nd post where Lucy Exley caught the ball securely. Super catches were taken by Lucy, Tabitha and Adelaide. Francesca and Georgia stopped hits to the deeps and fielded them in quickly and generally accurately.

A few things to work on before the next match but a good team performance. Well done to all the girls who played.
Team Manager: Miss J Newlyn
