Local Artist celebrates Creativity at Terra Nova
09 October 2009
Local Artist Ann Lever was the guest of honour at our impressive Art & Design Technology Exhibition, where she opened the week long exhibition during a private viewing on Tuesday evening.
Ann Lever opened the exhibition with fantastic praise for the pupils work. She enthused, “As a parent I was always impressed with the quality of creative work my children enjoyed during their time at Terra Nova. It’s wonderful to see both the Art and Design Technology to continue to go from strength to strength. The school is incredibly lucky to have such wonderful teaching staff, who work tirelessly with their pupils to inspire and challenge them.”
The school has an excellent reputation for its creativity. Every pupils' work was on display from Nursery through to Year 8. Fiona Fontes, Head of Art, has taught the last three recipients of the Art Scholarship to Rugby School and Clare Curtis, Head of Design Technology, achieved a record 4 Design Technology scholarships last year. Those pupils who received Art or Design Technology scholarships also sent their latest work for display.
During the evening, Mr Martin Valentine, Head of Art at Sedbergh School presented the school with a copy of a self-portrait of Will Carling, who was an Old Terra Novan and Art Scholar at Sedbergh School.
Headmaster Andrew Lewin commented, “I am absolutely astounded by the quality of this exhibition. It really is remarkable. Thank you to everyone involved for the enormous amount of effort you have put in to make this a real success. We are delighted to see so many people in attendance. Thank you all for coming and thank you to Martin for our special gift.”
