Celebrating each child and their individual learning style is a priority for the teaching staff. Our teaching ethos is varied, practical and challenging. Children are encouraged to explore, question and have fun with their learning.
In Pre-Prep, a well-rounded reading and writing programme underpins the core development of Literacy. Alongside, a magical story structure offers excellent breadth to this curriculum area. The Mathematics curriculum offers a dynamic combination of scheme work, topic based activities and problem solving. We promote investigations, collaborative tasks with partners and a wealth of extension material is on offer to take children to the next milestone in their learning.
Children requiring extra time and support are guided at their own pace and level. Teaching assistants provide support within the department. Combined with our small class sizes, we are able to ensure a high adult to child ratio. Our recently developed Learning Resources Centre and Special Educational Needs team provide invaluable support inside and outside the classroom. In addition, weaker areas are recognised swiftly and supportive plans are drawn up to promote greater understanding, confidence and security.
Children take responsibility for their learning and we encourage them to reflect on their next steps. As a result, they are very proud of the wonderful results they achieve. Personal success, effort and excellence are celebrated by all. Our strong celebratory culture is well recognised and parents are regularly invited to share in their child’s success.
Our rigorous observation and assessment process is used carefully to make informed decisions on future targets for your child. Thorough and frequent communication with parents is a priority for us and all staff operate an open door policy. Five reports a year combined with three parents’ evenings, with published action plans, ensure that you will always be informed and involved in your child’s learning.
