Junior School (Years 3 & 4)

At the start of Year 3, when your child leaves the Pre-Prep, they become part of the Junior School. Here, they enter another important phase of their education. The transition to the Junior School means that your child is growing up and becoming more independent. However, we are very aware that the transition into Year 3 can be a major step for children and parents and we have a detailed transition programme in place to help to make the step as smooth as possible.

Each form group in the Junior School is looked after by a Form Tutor who teaches the main academic subjects and is responsible for the form’s overall pastoral care. At the same time, the pupil’s confidence is enhanced as they begin moving around the school for some of their lessons. The junior phase is the time when children become more independent in their learning. We realise that not all children will be at the same level, so individual needs will continue to be catered for. For the majority of subjects, pupils are taught in mixed ability forms, being appropriately challenged or supported according to their individual needs. Pupils are placed in sets for Maths and English to ensure each child reaches their full potential. Children also have the option of staying at school for Prep.

In the Junior School the School day begins at 8:20, and pick-up times vary throughout the week as follows:

Monday: 3:30pm
Tuesday: 5:15pm
Wednesday: 3:30pm (4:00pm for Year 4)
Thursday: 5:15pm
Friday: 3:30pm

All children have the option of staying for supervised homework sessions, activities and an evening meal (at no extra charge).

We value the opportunity to work in partnership with our parents, and Parents’ Evenings are held twice each academic year. They are an opportunity for parents to discuss the progress of each child with their Form Tutor. There are also numerous opportunities for parents to meet Form Tutors and discuss their child’s progress throughout the year.
